The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) released the seventh edition of its semi-annual magazine ‘Sama Qatar’ (Qatar’s Sky) covering a range of aviation-related topics.
The current issue includes an interview conducted by the Oxford Business Group with CAA Chairman HE Abdullah bin Nasser Turki al Subaey (pictured) focusing on topics such as the expansion of Hamad International Airport. In the interview, Subaey says that with the expansion of HIA, which will begin in the second half of the year, the airport’s capacity will increase from 30 million travellers to 53 million travellers a year. He also informs that the authority is working on expanding aerial services and reaching bilateral agreements in this regard with countries around the world. “These agreements would enhance the transportation network, and in turn increase the number of passengers going through the Hamad International Airport,” he points out.
Subaey says the authority has enhanced its strategic ties with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). He refers to the inauguration of Qatar’s permanent office at the ICAO in Montreal, Canada, as the latest effort in enhancing ties. He also notes that the move was an important step for the Qatari aviation industry, as it ensures its active participation in all ICAO initiatives. He says it will facilitate exchange of expertise between both sides, given the host of leading experts that ICAO has. The magazine also features an interview with the Director of Meteorology Department Abdullah Mohammed al Mannai, in which the latter reveals the plan for a project to add 50 rain gauges across the country. He also discusses the department’s commitment to developing national cadres through its Qatarisation plan, noting that 95 percent of those working in the department are Qatari nationals.
The seventh issue of the magazine begins with an article written by the head of the authority’s Public Relations department Talal Abdullah al Malki, who discusses the economic achievements of the State of Qatar since the blockade started two years ago.
